Overlay solid hardwood timber flooring has been designed for people who love the style and warmth of a solid timber floor, but don't have the traditional bearers-and-joists subfloor structure to work with. Overlay flooring (12 mm) is thinner than traditional tongue and groove strip flooring (19 mm). Because Overlay flooring goes down directly over a structural surface such as concrete or plywood, it is well supported and you don't need the extra 7 mm in thickness. When compared to traditional 19 mm tongue and groove strip flooring, overlay flooring still offers the same depth of wear (the depth of the board that can be sanded and refinished) even though the overall plank is 7 mm thinner. Overlay flooring is designed to be laid directly over concrete, existing timber, plywood or particleboard flooring. As long as your old floor is clean, dry and flat, you can lay an overlay floor, so it's perfect for ground floor renovations over a concrete slab or second storey refurbishments where the carpet has been pulled up and the subfloor is still in place. It's recommended to leave the overlay flooring to acclimatise to its new environment for an appropriate time. Your new floor should then be professionally installed and only takes a short time to install, sand and finish. Features and Benefits of Overlay Flooring
